Fluoride Release from Conventional Glass-ionomer Cements and Polyacid-modified Composite Resins

چکیده

Fluoride release into deionized water from two glass-ionomer cements (Aqua Ionofil and Ceramfil β) and two polyacid-modified composite resins or compomers (Hytac and Dyract AP) was examined over different time periods. Nine cylindrical specimens (2.5 x 8.5 mm) of each material were prepared and allowed to stand in deionized water. The resulting solutions were analyzed for fluoride by the Alizarin colorimetric method on the 1st, 7th, 30th, and 120th days. The smaller release of fluoride from the compomers seemed to be fairly linear from day 7 to day 120, whereas most of the fluoride release from the glass-ionomer cements appeared to have occurred by day 30 and afterwards was very slow to day 120. Overall, the two compomers exhibited less fluoride release than the two conventional glass-ionomer cements, and the differences were statistically significant (p<0.05). The greatest amount of fluoride was released from the conventional glass-ionomer Ceramfil β‚ and the least amount from the compomer Dyract, for which only one previous study could be found.

Radiopacity of glass-ionomer/composite resin hybrid materials.

This study visually compared the radiopacity of seven restorative materials (3 resin-modified glass-ionomer cements, 3 polyacid-modified composite resins, and 1 conventional glass-ionomer cement) to a sound tooth structure sample, and an aluminium stepwedge. All hybrid materials were more radiopaque, except for one resin-modified glass-ionomer cement, than both the tooth structure and conventio...

Fluoride - Releasing Dental Restorative Materials : An Update

The fluoride ion has a well-established beneficial role in dentistry in protecting the teeth from assault by caries. It is known to contribute to the dynamic mineralisation process of the natural tooth mineral, and also to become incorporated with the mineral phase, forming a thin layer of fluorapatite. This is more resistant to acid attack than the native hydroxyapatite, hence protects the too...

مقایسه آزاد سازی فلوراید از سه نوع گلاس آینومر پس از قرار گیری در محلول NAF2% خنثی و اسیدی

The purpose of this study was to assess the fluoride release of three fluoride- containing materials exposed to fluoride solutions. This study compared the initial fluoride release and release following re-fluoridation (neutral or acidic 2% NaF) of three different filling materials, conventional glass ionomer cement (CG1C), resin- modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC), polyacid- modified compos...

Fluoride Release and Uptake of Five Dental Restoratives from Mouthwashes and Dentifrices

BACKGROUND This study evaluated the fluoride release and uptake of five common dental restoratives mainly glass ionomer formulations, including a conventional glass ionomer, a relatively new caries stabilization glass ionomer and resin-modified glass ionomer (Fuji II, Fuji VII and Fuji II LC); one compomer (F2000); and one fluoride releasing composite resin (tetric ceram). MATERIALS AND METHO...

Fluoride Release and Recharge from Different Materials Used as Fissure Sealants

OBJECTIVES Fluoride release/recharge properties of fissure sealants are important for their long-term inhibition of caries. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between fluoride release and recharge of pit-and-fissure sealants. METHODS Specimens were prepared from 5 different sealant materials: Fissurit F, a conventional resin; Fuji VII, a glass-ionomer cement (GIC); Fuji II L...
